Waste Free Santa Cruz (WFSC) was founded in January 2024 as a community-based volunteer organization to support and build solutions to reduce waste in Santa Cruz County.

WFSC volunteers are sustainability professionals, nonprofit leaders, and passionate community members who wanted to join a local organization dedicated to understanding and improving our waste system through collaborations with nonprofits, businesses, and local government.

We are lucky to live in a gorgeous coastal ecosystem where people have a connection with nature and care deeply about living in harmony with the environment.

Unfortunately, there is still much we need to do to prevent pollution from contaminating our water, soil, and air. Did you know that during the Covid-19 pandemic, Santa Cruz generated in 3 years as much waste as we normally do in 10 years?
Waste Free Santa Cruz is particularly focused on solutions that advance reuse and repair to prevent materials from entering the waste stream in the first place. We believe this is where we can make the greatest impact as a community-based organization focused on raising awareness about and participation in local waste-reducing activities.

If you are passionate about waste reduction, mitigating climate change, and helping our natural environment flourish, please consider signing up to join one of our volunteer meetings.
